An Air France Airbus 330-200 plane on transatlantic flight from Rio de Janeiro-Galeao International Airport, RJ (GIG) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) has gone missing carrying 216 passengers and 12 crew members the airline said on Monday, June 1, 2009.
The aircraft left Rio de Janeiro on Sunday at 7 p.m. local time and was expected in Paris on Monday at 11:15 a.m. (0915 GMT).
“Air France regrets to announce that it is without news from flight AF 447,” an Air France spokesman said.
The Brazilian Airforce have confirmed that the flight is missing, and is currently organizing a search for the flight. There is an off chance that the planes transponders failed, but this late in, and with no contact, it’s unlikely.
It is said that the plane was lost around the area below.
