Fox has announced Tuesday that Billy Bell has left So You Think You Can Dance‘s sixth season due to an unspecified illness.
Bell, 19, is a contemporary dancer from West Palm Beach, FL who was revealed as one of Fox’s reality competition’s sixth-season finalists during last week’s unveiling of the season’s Top 20.
The Bell family released a statement saying that if Billy will continue with the competition, it could mean grave consequences for the dancer.
“We were all very disappointed when we heard the news and Billy was devastated when his doctors told the show that if he continued to dance on the show before he recovered, he could possibly die.”
“Billy’s family would like to thank all of his fans for the support they have shown him this season,” the statement further read. “As of right now, Billy hopes to try out again for season 7… Thank you so much for sharing your love and support with our family!”
Billy was already released from the hospital today and is feeling better. While a specific diagnosis was not mentioned, Us Weekly reports Billy is being treated for mononucleosis.
Billy Bell will be replaced by Brandon Dumlao, 21, a Hip Hop dancer from Concord, CA. He will join the Top 20 this week during the first two-hour performance show, airing Tuesday night.

first of all, billy is my fave dancer and im in love with him.he did not have an illness. he just sprained his knee. i was devistated when i heard. he is not being replaced. recently billy got voted off. he did not withdraw. you people are so late. if america did not vote him off, then he would have been in the finale. i belive he was definately the BEST dancer there and to remember him, im going to draw a manga picture of him and post it on deviantart.
