You Never Know! Anything Goes!

Danica Patrick Daytona 500 crash

Deemed by many as the most important and prestigious race day for car race fans, yes its Daytona 500.

It was the NASCAR debut of Danica Patrick and many had high hopes for her but it ended in a disappointing fashion when she was caught up in a in a 12-car accident just past the race’s halfway point during the 2010 Daytona 500 on Saturday, February 13,  at Daytona International Speedway.

The accident started when drivers Josh Wise and Colid Braun collided. Patrick was doing fine but she was blinded by the smoke and there’s nowhere to go. She hit the wall but eventually gained control of her car. She was not hurt but clearly disappointed. At the end of the race she stated:

“I remember my very first year at IndyCar where the first couple of races, I do really well, and everybody’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, you should be winning,’ and then it took another couple of years,” Patrick said. “So it’s important to have realistic expectations. There’s going to be spikes in performance, I don’t doubt that. But there’s also going to be tough days. Today was a more tough day. I wish I would’ve run up there at the beginning and felt more comfortable, but I just didn’t. And that just proves how hard it is out here and how much there is to learn and how good all these drivers really are.”

The owner of her JR Motorsports car, Dale Earnhardt Jr., was also knocked out in a crash.  Danica Patrick finished 35th out of 43 drivers with her GoDaddy.com car and it was Tony Stewart won the race.

Danica Patrick gained popularity with her win in the 2008 Indy Japan 300 as she became the first woman to win an Indy car race. And her personal best was when she placed 3rd in the 2009 Indianapolis 500, the highest finish by a woman in the event’s history. And let’s not forget her hot GoDaddy.com commercials.
