The CBS late night host David Letterman announced to his studio audience Thursday that he testified before a grand jury today about a plot to extort $2 million from him in exchange for not revealing sexual liaisons he had with people in his office. Hmmm, sounds like John Travolta’s case.
Letterman revealed this to the puzzled crowd coming back from commercial break after his opening monologue. He said that three weeks ago he had received a package from someone claiming to have had information about his having had sex with female employees of “Late Show.” If he can’t come up with $2 million, person had threatened to go public with the details.
“This morning, I did something I’ve never done in my life,” Letterman on his program on Thursday, according to Variety. “I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury.”
In CBS’ first statement, they said: “Mr. Letterman’s comments on the broadcast tonight speak for themselves.”
The network then later issued this statement: “CBS was made aware of an ongoing police investigation involving David Letterman and an employee at ’48 Hours,’ who was subsequently arrested earlier today on charges of attempted grand larceny in the first degree. CBS is cooperating fully with the authorities and the employee has been suspended pending the results of the investigation. Mr. Letterman addressed the issue during the show’s broadcast this evening, and we believe his comments speak for themselves.”
In his testimony with the prosecutors, he acknowledged having sex with members of his staff.
“My response to that is, yes I have. Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would,” he said. “I feel like I need to protect these people—I need to certainly protect my family.”

So? The bad guy here is the extortionist, not Dave. There isn’t a man alive who hasn’t had consensual sex with women they work with, including priests of all religions, the latter preferring boys! Anyone who starts a diatribe against Letterman’s lack of morals is a hypocrite. ” Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”.
Let’s grow up and admit we are all sexual beings, and would do the same, given the opportunity.
Dave was man enough to own up to the facts, and shoot the criminal down in his tracks. Bravo, David!
