Before the “Taco Bell Rap Battle” and “It’s all About the Roosevelts”, there was “Yo quiero Taco Bell”. Now, we won’t be seeing Gidget’s cute puppy-dog eyes anymore as the famous Chihuahua mascot of Taco Bell died on July 21st, 2009.
According to Studio Animal Services, Gidget suffered a massive stroke and died at her trainer’s house in Southern California at the age of 15.
“It was very hard to lose her,” owner Karin McElhatton told ABCNews.com today. “She was a great little dog.”
Gidget was featured in Taco Bell’s commercial from 1997 to 2000 and is well-known for her line, “Yo quiero Taco Bell” which means “I want Taco Bell”. Aside from this, she also popularized the phrases “Drop the Chalupa!” and “Viva Gorditas”. And eventhough she’s a girl, her voice was dubbed as a male. She became the top marketing Chihuahua during that time as the consumer gave a positive response to her ads. Gidget became so popular that Chihuahua toys, T-shirt and other merchandise were created.
In 2003, the Gidget played the role of Bruiser’s mom in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.
Just like Gidget’s trainer, Sue Chipperton, said, she made a lot of people happy and we will remember her.
