The Metrodome roared with applause and praises after the Minnesota Twins won against the Detroit Tigers in a thrilling tiebreaker by the score of 6-5.
For the first time in baseball history, the Twins came back from a three game deficit in the AL Central with only four games to play. That’s even more amazing win.
Carlos Gomez sprinted home with the winning run to finish off an AL Central race and Alexi Casilla singled home the winning run with one out in the 12th inning and the Twins rallied for victory Tuesday night, completing a colossal collapse for the Tigers.
“This is the most unbelievable game I’ve ever played or seen,” Twins shortstop Orlando Cabrera said.
“I had that emotion inside where you just want to clap when it’s over — win or lose — because it was such a wonderful baseball game,” said Bobby Keppel, the Twins’ seventh reliever. “That game was special.”
Former Twin, Frank Viola, Twin Manager Ron Gardenhire and Twin’s pitching coach Rick Anderson, who is a Met in 1986, called Tuesday’s game the best he had ever seen. It was indeed.
“Watching all the stuff that was going on, you just start laughing,” Gardenhire said. “I went out to the mound a couple of times, told them what we were going to do, and I just laughed and said, ‘I’m out of here. Good luck, boys.’ ”
The Twins (87-76) advance to the AL Division Series, where they will open Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium with Brian Duensing facing CC Sabathia.
