You Never Know! Anything Goes!

200 more people will lose their job very very soon when Monson Trucking announced that they are closing down by Aug. 31.

Monson Trucking, a fourth generation trucking business based in Duluth. About 100 employees in Duluth, including truck drivers, mechanics, office staff and management, were already informed by one of the owners, Michael Monson.

Most of the employees were shocked about the news. The business has been slow for the last month and they lost two major customers because of bankruptcy, the company was greatly affected causing it to shut down.

“The decision was made this week, but had been considered for a long time because of lost revenue, including $500,000 in losses from the two Canadian paper mills,” Monson said.

The company already considered cutting back their expenses and laying-off more people but it seems like it won’t work. Closing down was the only option.

Employees located in Virginia, Red Wing and Mauston, WI. were told about this on Wednesday, July 2, through video conferencing. Some of the employees will work for the company until August 31 but others will only stay until Friday.

50 drivers had been laid off last fall because of the economy. Those who were left behind agreed to stay but received a cut in their salary and reduced health coverage.

In September, an auction will be held in their Mauston and Duluth terminals to liquidate all of its equipment.
