Proves that rumors have its basis. On August 18, 2009, Sony officially announced at the Sony Gamescom press conference the release of PlayStation 3 “Slim” Edition for $299. It will feature an upgradeable 120GB hard drive, a Blu-ray player, DualShock3 controller, HDMI output with 1080p support and is 33% smaller, 36% lighter, and consumes 34% less power than Play Station 3. Also,PS3 Slim includes support for BRAVIA Sync allowing control of the PS3 Slim over HDMI and will run quieter.
Kmart’s pre-order page “The Rumors Are Reality, New Low Price & A New Exciting PlayStation 3.” are selling PS3 Slim for $300. Sears as well are already taking pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 Slim for $299.99 and will be available in the US on September 1st. That’s less than two weeks from now. The PS3 slim will be released in UK on Friday, September 11 on ASDA for £250.
Along with this, Sony also announced that the PlayStation 3 (the big one) that effective immediately, the price has been cut to $299 all over the world. That’s a great saving for those who are planning to purchase one.
