August 25, 2009 is the 8th anniversary of the late American singer, actress and model, Aaliyah.
Aaliyah Dana Haughton, 22, along with eight other passengers, was killed in a plane crash in The Bahamas where they filed her last music video “Rock the Boat”. She only recorded three studio albums, all have been certified double platinum by the RIAA. Her album, Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number, in 1994 sold 2 million copies in the U.S. alone. Selling over 24 million records worldwide, she has been credited for helping redefine R&B and hip hop 1990s, “leaving an indelible imprint on the music industry as a whole”. Aaliyah had been named the “Queen of Urban Pop”. She even introduced the production work of Timberland to be accepted by a wider audience.
The Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards will pay tribute to Aaliyah, together with King of Pop Michael Jackson, at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, Scotland on Wednesday 30th September 2009.
MOBO’s organizers described Aaliyah as, “Always humble and down to earth. What made the world fall in love with Aaliyah was that she never let the fame get to her. Despite living the dream, she remained genuine and caring person.”
“Her soft, soulful voice took the world by storm and drew us all in.
Whether it was a fast up-tempo track like Try Again or a slow heartfelt track like I Care 4 U, her voice somehow connected perfectly.”
A Mobo spokeswoman added: “It can definitely be said that Aaliyah paved the way for the Ciaras and the Keri Hilsons of this world. Aaliyah we miss you.”

Thanks for this. Aaliyah was stunning. A person I both admire and miss. It’s a shame what happened to her. The popart painting I bought of her is well good and will be cherished forever!
