You Never Know! Anything Goes!

Rick Rhoden, a former MLB pitcher, wins the 2009 American Century Celebrity Golf Championship on Sunday, July 19th, 2009 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Club. This is his 8th celebrity championship title at this event and the first time that has won this tournament in consecutive years.

Rhoden earned himself a total of 74 points posting a 2-over par round with 4 bogies and only 2 birdies. Aside from the prestige and trophy, he got to take home a $125,000 winner’s check.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who was leading after the first round, finished as the second placer with 71 points.

Former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver finished with a double bogey leaving him and Dan Quinn with 70 points and shared the third place.

“I did not play well today,” said Rhoden, who finally successfully defended his title for the first time. “I actually was getting nervous in the end.”

Jeremy Roenick took the fifth place with 69 points and Grant Fuhr, a former NHL goalie, came in sixth place with 67 points.

Under the modified Stableford scoring system, players are awarded 8 points for a double-eagle, eight points for a hole-in-one, 5 points for an eagle, two points for a birdie, zero point for a par and minus one point (-1) for a bogey. Three points are subtracted for each score of double-bogey or worse.
