You Never Know! Anything Goes!

Ron Artest, now a forward of L.A. Lakers, chose No. 37 as his own tribute to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson. MJ’s ‘Thriller” album was at No. 1 on the charts for 37 straight weeks when it was released in 1982.

Ron Artest already changed his number five times throughout his NBA career. And, every number he chose seems like to represent or inspired by something.

When he played for the Pacers in 2002, he changed his uniform number 23 in honor to NBA legend Michael Jordan. Number 91 in honor of Dennis Rodman in 04-05 season. After in fight between Pacers and Pistons, he changed back to number 15. When he was traded to  Sacramento Kings, he then replaced his number to 93. 93 stands for the Queensbridge projects where he grew up, with “9″ representing “Q” in Queens and “3″ representing “B” in Bridge. Another things that influenced the number 93 was the 1993 Souls of Mischief’s album, 93 ‘til Infinity. Then, for one Season with Houston Rockets, he used the number 96.

Hope number 37 will give him power as Laker’s new forward.
