L.A. Lakers Win the 2010 NBA Finals and 16th Title

All hail the mighty Lakers. We were not disappointed. It was a well-played 2010 NBA Finals.

On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Lakers won their 16th NBA championship, dramatically turning the tables around from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Boston Celtics 83-79 in Game 7. It was a nail-biting game.

“This one is by far the sweetest, because it’s them,” Bryant said, who scored 23 points throughout the game. “This was the hardest one by far. I wanted it so bad, and sometimes when you want it so bad, it slips away from you. My guys picked me up.”

They really did. It was an awesome display of team effort. There was Ron Artest who scored 20 points for the Lakers, Derek Fisher’s 3-points that evened out the score in the fourth quarter, Lamar Odom and, let us not forget, Pau Gasol whose 9 points during fourth quarter were so significant. These players shot and rebounded like their life depended on it. It’s now or never.

“Well, first of all I want to thank everybody in my hood,” Artest said in an interview after the game. “I definitely want to thank my doctors … my psychiatrist, she really helped me relax a lot.”

“I’ve got to take a deep breath. I’ve got to take some time to think about this,” Lakers coach Phil Jackson said and expressed that this could be his last season, “This was great. I’ll wait to make that decision in a week.”

Even though was not at his best in Game 7, Kobe Bryant still secured the Finals MVP award after averaging 28.6 points in the series.

But let us also give credit to the Boston Celtics. That team played so well and showed plenty of hearts to win the game. It is worth noting that Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, scoring 18 and 17 points respectively, were awesome in the court.

2014 Superbowl Heading to New Jersey

Get ready for the NFL Super Bowl 2014. Well, it’s still a long way to go but it’s going to be worth the wait… And off we go to New Jersey!

NFL owners voted Tuesday to put the 48th Super Bowl in New Meadowlands Stadium will host a cold-weather Super Bowl in 2014.

The $1.6 billion worth stadium, which is the new home of the New York Jets and New York Giants, has been selected as the first Super Bowl host site that’s neither in a warm weather city nor under a dome.

“We believe the owners have the faith in us that 3 years from now we’ll put on a remarkable event,” Giants co-owner Jonathan Tisch said on the NFL Network. “The greatest game in the world will be played on the greatest stage in the world.”

The league made an exception for the New York area, and New York only. New Jersey got four votes from the NFL owners over two cities in Florida, Miami and Tampa. Miami was eliminated after the second ballot.

New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez praised decision by NFL owners as a victory for Jersey.

“Touchdown, New Jersey!,” said Menendez. “At long last, the biggest, most famous and most vibrant region in the world has scored the world’s biggest sporting event. Hosting the Super Bowl will allow us to showcase New Jersey and to reap the economic benefits that a week’s worth of events and thousands of visitors will bring.”

The event is expected to bring an estimated local revenue of $600 million.

What can we say? Bring it on baby! We’re armed with coats and mittens.

Kevin Garnett Suspended for Game 2 of NBA Playoffs

Boston Celtics‘ power forward Kevin Garnett has been suspended by the NBA for Game 2 of the first NBA Playoffs series against the Miami Heat.

The suspension came after the little incident that happened with 40 seconds remaining in fourth quarter of Saturday’s Game 1 where the Celtics won 85-76 against the Heat. Miami Heat’s Quentin Richardson was hit in the head with an elbow by Garnett. Meanwhile, Richardson has been fined $25,000 for his involvement in the altercation as announced by Stu Jackson, NBA executive vice president, basketball operations on Sunday.

The minor scuffle happened near Miami’s bench while Boston’s Paul Pierce lay on the floor with an apparent right shoulder injury. Garnett said he wanted to make room for Pierce as Heat players stood nearby. During the confrontation, Garnett and Richardson exchanged words.

“I saw Paul grab his shoulder, as a stinger or whatever, so I just tried to immediately call [Celtics trainer] Ed [Lacerte] over,” Garnett explained after the game. “I tried to give him some room and I just saw [Quentin Richardson] standing over him talking nonsense. I asked [Richardson] to give him some room and, before you knew it, mayhem started. That situation, man, I know these two [Richardson and Pierce] have competed against each other in the past and have history from bumping heads a little bit. I was just trying to give him the common courtesy for an injured player, that’s all. Nothing more, nothing less.

“I have no beef with Q, I know him personally. I thought what he did was a bit disrespectful, standing over a guy hurt, you know, and talking nonsense. Before you knew it, it all just broke out. I gotta use my head, but all I saw was Paul hurt and that’s all I cared about at that time.”

Referee Joe DeRosa released the following statement after the game: “[Garnett] was ejected for throwing an elbow that made contact with Quentin Richardson. He had already had one technical foul for taunting with Quentin Richardson before that. Then as the altercation went on, he threw an elbow that did make contact with Richardson, which was his second technical foul and he was ejected.”

Footloose Remake, Chace Crawford as Ren McCormack

Chace Crawford of Gossip Girl signed as Ren McCormack in the upcoming Footloose remake. Zac Efron was originally casted for the role for months but he dropped it because he said he wants to take a break from the musical scene. The movie will be directed and produce by the High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega.

The role of Ariel Moore hasn’t been filled yet. It was reported that Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes, and Miley Cyrus auditioned for the spot. (No, not Miley!)

The original 1984 Footloose movie was starred by Kevin Bacon as Ren McCormack (He was young then of course). Imagine a life where dancing and rock music is banned. How boring. That was the story is about. Ren and his classmates wanted to have a senior prom. But before that could happen, they have to go through Reverend Shaw Moore (who was played by John Lithgow) and the law where music and dancing is forbidden.

They will start filming the Footloose remake on March 2010. So, the movie won’t be released until summer of 2011. So far, Zac Efron’s musical movies have been a hit. Let’s see how it goes out with Chace Crawford.
