“I don’t cry for myself; I cry for them. For every success story you see, there’s another 40,000 that’s being buried.”

He further added, in defense of his Yele Haiti charity:

“Have we made mistakes before? Yes. Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefits? Absolutely not….Yele’s books are open and transparent and we have been given a clean bill of health by an external auditor every year since we started.”

The charity was said to be “beyond late” in its tax filings, other experts said, but added lackadaisical accounting is common among non-profit organizations and not necessarily suspicious. They did not doubt that Yele has little experience in handling the size of donations estimated at several million dollars it received since the earthquake. An amount, in billions will really be baffling for the staffs of the Yele Haiti charity.

He then closed with these statements, speaking in his native tongue, talking to his own kin:

“Myself, the reality is, my people are dying and I have to go back to the ground in a few days for a mission relief. Now if you don’t mind, my people in Haiti are watching this. So I gotta talk to them in they own language.”

The little girl (little Winnie), whose parents where killed along side her, was rescued by Richard Moran (cameraman) and Deiby Celestino (interpreter) as the they put down the camera and lifted pieces of rocks to save the moaning child. Nine reporter Robert Penfold narrated:

“And then, out of the ruins came this little girl, and I will never forget it. She did not cry. She looked astonished, almost as if she was seeing the world for the first time,”

Celestino on the other hand said this on an interview:

“It’s very emotional. I actually thought it was my own baby pulling out there,” said hero/rescuer Celestino “She did a great job staying alive for three days with no food or drink.“

The rescue was recorded by Nine’s rival Seven and it was shown all over the globe. It was a touching moment and it just shows that journalists can also work together, despite of rivalries, for the greater good.

Not only hundreds but hundreds of thousands of people are feared to be dead after an overwhelming 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti Tuesday, Haiti’s prime minister told CNN today.

According to Red Cross, as many as three million people were affected by the disaster, which turned the capital city of Port-au-Prince to rubble.

President Barack Obama declares that the U.S. will give its “unwavering support” to save lives” in the hemisphere’s poorest nation.

“I have directed my administration to respond with a swift, coordinated and aggressive effort to save lives,” Obama said at the White House after he canceled a trip and decided to dedicate his time in helping the country.

“The people of Haiti will have the full support of the United States in the urgent effort to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble and to deliver the humanitarian relief — the food, water and medicine — that Haitians will need in the coming days.”

Everything is in chaos in Haiti. People are crying for their loved ones, thousands are trapped in the wreckage of collapsed buildings, dead bodies on the streets.  Houses and buildings were flattened, which include the presidential palace, a major hospital and a five-story United Nations building. France’s foreign minister said its U.N. mission chief in Haiti appears to have died in the quake.

Now, organizations, federal officials and local politicians in the US, as well as other countries are seeking for any way possible to help Haiti. Companies promised to give millions of dollars in aid for the victims. Digicel Group, a top mobile phone operator in Haiti, said it would donate $5 million in cash toward relief efforts and appealed to others to help victims of the quake. Lowe’s Cos Inc is donating $1 million to the Red Cross’ efforts in Haiti. National Bank of Canada, which will contribute up to C$250,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, said National Bank MasterCard cardholders can exchange reward points for a cash donation to the Canadian Red Cross. The Bank of Nova Scotia said it would accept donations to the Canadian Red Cross in its bank branches, and would make a C$250,000 corporate contribution. Wells Fargo will contribute $100,000 to the American Red Cross’ disaster relief fund. Bank of America Corp plans to provide aid too, a company spokeswoman said.

The country of Haiti is the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. It has about 9 million people, with 80 percent of the population living under the poverty line.

In this drastic time, let us offer our help and prayers that they may have the strength, peace and courage to overcome and to move forward after this tragedy.
