It has surpassed <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref_%3Dnb%255Fsb%255Fdd%255Faps%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3DTitanic%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=lemebl-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957"target="_blank">Titanic, which had held the records for the previous 12 years. It also became the first film to gross more than $2 billion. After all the record-breaking, it’s about the time Avatar step down and it’ll be a while before anyone breaks that record.

It follows the story of Special Forces Army Sergeant John Tyree (Channing Tatum). On his two-week leave from Germany, he meets Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried) who is a college student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The two started to fall in love but Savannah has to go back to college and John to the army. For a year, they live in a long distance relationship. John believes that year will be his final year of enlistment, but, following the September 11 attacks, their love is put to test. He is undecided whether to go home or fulfill his duty to serve the army.

After its sixth consecutive week as No. 1 at the box office, James Cameron sank his own ship and let Avatar become the biggest-grossing offshore title in movie history. For 13 years, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref_%3Dnb%255Fsb%255Fss%255Fi%255F0%255F4%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3Dtitanic%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps%26sprefix%3DTita&tag=lemebl-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957"target="_blank">Titanic was the number one until Cameron launched his spectacular high-tech 3D movie.

For how much you ask? The James Cameron mega-budget blockbuster epic film hauled up a total of $1.292 billion on Sunday, exceeding “Titanic’s” box office record of $1.242 billion by $50.1 million. The foreign record actually fell Saturday of $1.288 billion.

Among the key territories on the weekend were: France ($124.8 million), Germany ($95.8 million), the U.K. ($93.2 million), South Korea ($79.7 million), Japan ($77.7 million), Australia ($77 million) and Spain ($76 million).

People who love Titanic, love Avatar even more that they came to watch the movie 2 or 3 times in theaters that helped the film reached the top. It was only released internationally on December 16, 2009 but it collected awards for Best Motion Pictures and Best Director for the film at the 67th Annual Golden Globe on January 17, 2010.

We are just amazed of how James Cameron makes his movies. Now, the only question is — when’s the sequel?

When we say “blue creatures”, we no longer think of the smurfs. What come into our minds are the Na’vis and their beautiful planet Pandora. James Cameron’s Avatar is undeniably huge now.

Let’s review our figures here, shall we? Avatar earned $3,537,000 from midnight screenings, $77 million over its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada alone, and a worldwide gross of an estimated $232,180,000 after three days, that’s the ninth largest opening-weekend gross of all time. It broke the records of The Dark Knight, Spider-Man’s long standing record and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Now, it has surpassed the record the previous fourth weekend record of $28,716,310 held by Titanic. After only 27 days of being released, Avatar has grossed $445 million domestically, and $978 million in other territories with a worldwide total of $1.424 billion. Not too remote for “Avatar” to beat the $1.84 billion worldwide total for Cameron’s “Titanic.”

And what’s this? Latest news is that Cameron is planning to do a sequel to Avatar. Not entirely unexpected but still send shivers through my veins. And not only that, hopefully, he’ll arrange the franchise into a trilogy. Now that’s unforeseen.

“I’ve had a storyline in mind from the start – there are even scenes in ‘Avatar’ that I kept in because they lead to the sequel,” Cameron tells Entertainment Weekly in this week’s issue. “It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan. ‘The CG [computer graphic] plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters – that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It’d be a waste not to use it again.”

Wow. Sam Worthington was already given the role of Jake Sully. Of course he can run now and no longer human but a Na’vi. No word about Neytiri but we’re confident that it’ll still be played by Zoe Saldana. I wonder what will be Stephen Lang’s, plays the evil Colonel Miles Quaritch, role now. He hinted “You think those two arrows in my chest are going to stop me from coming back? Nothing’s over so long as they’ve got my DNA.” Hope that they can also do something with Michelle Rodriguez.

If indeed there will be a sequel, it won’t happen anytime soon. Cameron is currently in pre-production on his next movie that will hit the big screen in 2011 called “Battle Angel” in which he’ll apply the same CG technology as “Avatar”.

It has been proven that James Cameron makes great movies. We will just patiently wait and look forward for the sequel of Avatar. “I see you.”

He has done it again; James Cameron has made the new movie Avatar as the second-highest-grossing film ever. This guy might have some attitude issues seen when he denied a fan his autograph (which he thoroughly justified) but he sure can make one epic movie. Wait, make that “two” epic movies the first one, that is to say the, the amazingly made Titanic.

All of us know that Avatar is Cameron’s only movie after the 1997 success of Titanic. He waited that long, for the technology to flourish, and made what we movie viewers saw as a very intelligent yet quite entertaining 3D rendered Avatar. It might also be added that the movie is very original in its own sense which is what lacks to today’s movies, some movies I mean.

As of last Wednesday, Avatar has apparently reached a $1.14 billion gross ticket sale worldwide. This marked it as a new second biggest film of all time overturning the previous no. 2 “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.” The film is also one of the 5 films to be able to top the $1 billion mark. With still an $800 million leap from LOTR: Return of the King to Titanic, Avatar just needs a bit more (quite some more) and it will take the slot that Titanic has held on for years. Nonetheless, James Cameron has again proven that he is The King of the World (of movies that is).

Director James Cameron and 20th Century Fox have officially released their new trailer for the much hyped Avatar movie online. The trailer has already been attached to theatrical releases since last Friday but they decided to wait a week before letting it hit the net.

ComingSoon has also shared a new 4-minute behind-the-scenes featurette with new footages from the movie. You can watch it below.

Avatar follows the story of Jake Sully, is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake was recruited to join an expedition to the moon Pandora, which corporate interests are strip-mining for a mineral worth $20 million per kilogram on Earth. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. Standing three meters tall (approximately 10 ft), with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Na’vi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora’s forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi prepared to defend their planet and themselves from those who threatened existence.

Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. In his new avatar form, Jake can once again walk. His mission is to interact with and infiltrate the Na’vi with the hope of enlisting their help in mining the ore. Sent deep into Pandora’s jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora’s beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri.

Jake integrates himself into the Na’vi clan, and begins to fall in love with Neytiri. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth and the Na’vi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world.

The 3-D science fiction epic film will hit theaters and IMAX 3D December 18, 2009.
