If you happened to have missed Michael Jackson’s This Is It on the big screen, or you just want to watch it over and over again, you won’t have to wait long to see the Michael Jackson’s documentary concert film in the comfort of your home. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced Monday that it will release the DVD and Blu-ray disc version of This Is It on January 26, 2010.

This Is It’s release will coincide with the seven-month anniversary of Michael Jackson death. It will feature more than 90 minutes of extra footage, including interviews with director Kenny Ortega and the cast of the ill-fated This Is It show and behind-the-scenes documentaries. Sony said that both the DVD and Blu-ray discs will offer extensive bonus material over the movie version.

Additional features, which was allowed by the Jackson estate, exclusive to the Blu-ray include the full videos to Thriller and Smooth Criminal, two all-new vignettes seen briefly in the film, along with a special “Making-of Smooth Criminal” featurette.

“We are thrilled with the date that we ended up with, where it’s at an opportune time in the market,” said Marc Rashba, Sony’s VP of worldwide marketing. “The Grammys follow right after the release date. There will be a lot of Grammy areas in stores, and we can play into that.”

With $70 million grossed in the United States and more than $165 million (GBP103 million) worldwide, Michael Jackson’s This Is It is now the highest grossing concert movie and documentary in the history of cinema.

Chace Crawford of Gossip Girl signed as Ren McCormack in the upcoming Footloose remake. Zac Efron was originally casted for the role for  months but he dropped it because he said he wants to take a break from the musical scene. The movie will be directed and produce by the High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega.

The role of Ariel Moore hasn’t been filled yet. It was reported that Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes, and Miley Cyrus auditioned for the spot. (No, not Miley!)

The original 1984 Footloose movie was starred by Kevin Bacon as Ren McCormack (He was young then of course). Imagine a life where dancing and rock music is banned. How boring. That was the story is about. Ren and his classmates wanted to have a senior prom. But before that could happen, they have to go through Reverend Shaw Moore (who was played by John Lithgow) and the law where music and dancing is forbidden.

They will start filming the Footloose remake on March 2010. So, the movie won’t be released until summer of 2011. So far, Zac Efron’s musical movies have been a hit. Let’s see how it goes out with Chace Crawford.
