World number Roger Federer loses to French Julien Benneteau 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the second round of the Paris Masters on Wednesday, November 11. It is considered as Benneteau’s, best career victory while a sad loss for Federer since the he has never been further than the quarterfinals in seven appearances.

“He played incredible at the end. Julien went out and got the victory,” said Federer, who did not hesitate to admire his opponent. “I definitely had chances. I missed them. I feel fine physically, and mentally I was fresh to do really well here.”

Federer took the first set when Benneteau’s backhand return hit the net, but the Frenchman found his range in the second set and dominated the tiebreaker, tying the match with a low return that landed just inside the baseline.

“I didn’t have my rhythm from the baseline. Every time I had a chance he was winning the point,” Federer added.

Julien Benneteau can’t help but cry tears of joy and accept the cheers from the audience as they share his victory.

“It’s magic. It’s fabulous. Everything you can imagine. The memories will stay with me forever,” Benneteau said. “Hearing the crowd when they are all behind you, the noise is enormous. I didn’t believe it was possible to experience something like this.”

Benneteau went through to play countryman Gael Monfils, while Federer now has plenty of time to prepare for the season-ending tournament, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, which start in London this month.

Currently the World number one and five-time defending champion, Roger Federer moves to the men’s final of the US Open on Sunday. He defeated Serbian fourth seed Novak Djokovic in a 7-6 (7/3), 7-5, 7-5 win in his most amazing shot in his tennis career.

Federer will play for his sixth consecutive US Open title, 16th career Grand Slam title and a 1.6 million-dollar top prize against Argentine sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro on Monday.

Going back to the most talked about Federer’s move on the semi-final that caused him his triumph. Federer whacked the ball in style as he moves back-to-the-net, between-the-legs, cross-court winner from the baseline. The crowd was hysterical and he got his opponent shocked. Even Federer himself was stunned by this as they watched the replay on a television saying, “That’s unbelievable.” It is indeed.

“I do (practice) them a lot actually but they never work,” Federer said. “That’s why I guess it was the greatest shot I ever hit in my life.”

Djokovic was serving at 0-30 and lured Federer to the net, then lofted a lob to the back line that sent Federer dashing to run it down. Without thinking about it twice, Federer jumped above the ball, lowered his racket and hit the ball between his legs which sent it to over the net and into the empty part of the court. It was perfect.

“I was in a difficult position. I had nothing to lose,” Federer said.

The crowd applauded and Fereder won after two hours and 34 minutes.

“In these moments he comes up with some great shots,” Djokovic said. “That shot. You heard the crowd. What can you say? You say well done. Too good. What can you do?”

2009 U.S. Open, John Isner eliminated

And that ends the line of American players in the 2009 U.S. Open. Fernando Verdasco of Spain defeated American John Isner in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 score last Monday, September 7. It is the first time in 41 years in the history of US Open that no American had made it into the quarterfinals.

10th seeder Fernando Verdasco will now play either fourth seed Novak Djokovic or Czech Radek Stepanek for a place in the semi-finals.

“Sorry to beat the last one (American). You can support me now if you want,” Verdasco told the crowd on the Louis Armstrong Stadium court.

Meanwhile, top seed and defending champion Roger Federer moved a step closer to a record-equalling sixth straight title over Tommy Robredo of Spain with 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 win.

Robin Soderling defeated No. 8 seed Nikolay Davydenko after the latter abandoned with a thigh strain when trailing 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Söderling goes on to face the first seed Roger Federer, in what will be their 12th match. Soderling has only ever won but 1 set against Federer.

In the Women’s Singles, Melanie Oudin beat 13th-seeded over 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 victory ensuring her place in the quarterfinals. She became the youngest American tennis player to play in the quarterfinals since Serena Williams in 1999.

“It’s kind of hard to explain how I’ve done it,” Oudin said. “It’s, like, now I know that I do belong here. This is what I want to do, and I can compete with these girls, no matter who I’m playing. I have a chance against anyone.”

2009 Wimbledon Quarter Finals Results

The first match for male quarterfinals was between Roger Federer and Ivo Karlovic. Karlovic is known for his killer serve and everybody assumed that he’ll give Federer a hard time. But as it turns out, it was easy for Federer and won 6-3 7-5 7-6. This would be Federer’s 21^st straight Grand Slam semifinal. If he’ll win the 2009 Wimbledon title, this will make him the greatest Grand Slam winner in tennis history, exceeding Pete Sampras’ records.

The second match was between Novak Djokovic and Tommy Hass. Haas won with the score of 7-5 7-6 4-6 6-3 and he’ll face Federer in the semi-finals.

Andy Murray wins his Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time. He won against the former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5 6-3 6-2 points.

The final match was Andy Roddick taking on Lleyton Hewitt with 6-3 6-7 7-6 6-4 4-6 points.

The woman’s quarterfinals was done yesterday, July 1^st. Venus Williams beat Agnieszka Radwanska with 6-1 6-2. Serena Williams wins against Victoria Azarenka with 6-2 6-3. Elena Dementieva wins against Francesca Schiavone with 6-2 6-2. And Dinara Safina wins against Sabine Lisicki with 6-7 6-4 6-1.

Roger Federer Attacked at the 2009 French Open

Roger Federer was shocked after he was attacked by an obsessed fan at the French Open on Sunday, June 7. The fan got past security and in to the tennis court where he waved a Barcelona flag in front of Federer and tried to wrap a hat on his head.

The securities immediately came and seized the man but he tried to run away. He jumped over the net but one security guy was able to run around the court and restrained the man who attacked Federer. Looks like the man didn’t pose any threat but only to show his enthusiasm and support to Federer.

“All of a sudden I heard the crowd, and I looked over and he jumped over the fence or something. That gave me a fright, just, like, seeing him so close right away.”, said Federer.

Apparently, this is not the first time this kind of event happened.

“The good thing is, like, it happened before so that’s why I guess I didn’t panic. It happened in Wimbledon before when two guys ran out on the court, and once I think it was in Montreal when I lost to Roddick when I was playing for my No. 1 ranking in the third set.” he added.

But this incident didn’t shaken Roger Federer’s resolve to win. He beat Robin Soderling of Sweden 6-1, 7-6 (1), 6-4 to complete a career Grand Slam titles and equals Pete Sampras’s record total of 14.
