Remember the 1984 American war film Red Dawn? Rated as one of the most violent film of that time, was loved by many and affected millions. Years after its success, two top executives at MGM/UA, Harry Sloan and Mary Parent, announced that a remake of Red Dawn is in the early stages of pre-production in May 2008 at the Festival de Cannes.

Another news update about the film is the casting of Tom Cruise’s son, Connor Cruise, aged 14, as one of the Wolverines. They are a group of teenagers who revolt against the Russian when their town was invaded (though in this film it will be the Chinese).

Young Cruise, will join fellow new recruits Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas and Edwin Hodge in this MGM/UA project. Already cast are Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki. Connor will be playing the role of Daryl, the mayor’s son and best friend of tech geek Robert (Hutcherson). Lucas is Erica, Josh Peck character’s girlfriend. Hodge will play Danny, the coolest kid in school and star wide receiver who helps establish the resistance.

Director with Carl Ellsworth has said:

“The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we’re in. As ‘Red Dawn’ scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again? It was later revealed that the Chinese would be the invaders and they would be aided by the Russians later on.”

Fans of the old movie is now clamoring and anticipating the film’s release, hoping that it would surpass or equal the original film.
