It’s a story of a young boy named Aang who is destined to be the Avatar. Every generation, one Avatar circles and emerges from Fire Nation, Air Nomads, Earth Kingdom or Water Tribe. The Avatar is the manifestation of the world itself, is capable of manipulating all the four elements (air, water, earth and fire), and he is tasked to maintain the peace or order in the world. The Avatar before Aang was a Fire Nation named Avatar Roku. The moment Roku died, Aang was born.

In the TV series, the Sozin’s comet greatly increased the Fire Nation’s ability and Fire Lord Sozin used it to start the war against the other nations. They anticipated that during that time, the next Avatar will appear within Air Nomads. They attacked and the airbender’s genocide was just the beginning of it. Aang was the only one who survived since he escaped from his room, thus naming him “the last airbender”. The war continued for a hundred years.

From Nickelodeon’s animated series, comes a live-action movie, The Last Airbender, which will be directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Aang will be played Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz as Katara, Jackson Rathbone as Sokka, Dev Patel as Zuko, Shaun Toub as Uncle Iroh (my favorite character in the series), and Cliff Curtis as Fire Lord Ozai.

According to a video clip I saw last year, I even forgot/loss the file, Shyamalan’s daughter was addicted to the series and he started to watch it himself. This inspired him to make the movie, if I recalled it correctly. He also added that the whole three seasons will be squeezed in one movie and not as a sequel of the third season. Together with Mike Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Shyamalan created The Last Airbender. It is expected to hit the theaters on July 2, 2010. Still along way but I’m a big fan. I’ll be patiently waiting.

That’s Aang at the beginning of the clip doing some airbending. The Fire Nation’s ship in this trailer also looks like the ones in the series. I know this will be a good one.
