Twilight fans are not happy when Summit Entertainment announced on Tuesday that Rachelle Lefevre will be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard as the vampire Victoria in the third installment of the Twilight saga, Eclipse. Howard was seen in the movie Spider Man – 3, Terminator Salvation and Lady in the Water.
The report says that Lefevre confirmed a role in the independent movie Barney’s Version. The worst part is she was taken aback by the news herself. Her commitment with Barney’s Version would only take 10 days and she was shocked that Summit decided to replace her just like that.
“I was stunned by Summit’s decision to recast the role of Victoria for Eclipse. I was fully committed to the Twilight saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria. I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules.”
Summit said that they will replace Lefevre with an actress they believe could better portray the role of Victoria. According to the press release:
“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought ‘Victoria’ to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”
This is indeed a sad news since Lefevre played the role of Victoria pretty well. Her menacing smile and villainous looks is convincingly evil just as described in the book. In New Moon, Victoria will seek revenge over the death of her lover, James, who was killed by the Cullens in Twilight. We’ve never seen Howard played a role as a villain before but hopefully, she can pull this one off or she’ll see the wrath of the Twilight fanatics.
New Moon will hit the theaters on Nov. 20, 2009. Summit Entertainment confirmed that the filming of Eclipse will begin this August and is expected in theaters on June 30, 2010.
